It all begins with a concept .
Starting in September, I joined an escape room company as the Artist, concept designer, as well as assistant builder. This role allowed me to explore and hone my skills as an experience designer. It taught me how to hear a brief, work with time frame and budget, all while staying focused on creating a fun, immersive and joyful experience for customers.
For my first Project,I was tasked with creating a total redesign for an existing room. The theme had to remain the same, as well as a few other strategic elements. everything else from the look to the puzzles was up for redesign.
Taking inspiration from Whoville, and the mischievous Grinch,I got right to planning. We had just over 2.5 months before the doors had to be open to the public, and time was ticking.

I started by sketching the Key elements we knew we wanted to have in our final product.
Grinched Room Entrance. Blending the front door into the scene.
Game On Escapes.
We knew we wanted the bulk of the escape room to take place on what felt like a street surrounded by houses, and a sweet local bakery.
The sketches started rough, with notes and measurements.
Once we had the overall look and feel of the space down and building was able to start, we were able to then move onto the more detail oriented parts of the build. We pivoted to puzzle designs and small easter eggs that could be found by players.
Then came the fun part
